4. Review
The first “DiCaprio” EP dropped in 2015, where JID said that he named his project “DiCaprio” because Leonardo DiCaprio was his favorite actor, and he felt that they both shared similarities since DiCaprio never won an Oscar (at the time), and JID never won an award either. To JID, he and DiCaprio were unrecognized greats… And he was right.
With “The Never Story” having been released before this, and “The Forever Story” coming after, “DiCaprio 2” almost felt like it was the needed stepping stone album that led to the near masterpiece known as “The Forever Story”.
Like you can now come to expect from JID, if there’s one thing this project had, it was versatility. It had fast flows and aggressive deliveries, slow songs and vulnerable singing, bars after bars, and diverse, yet beautiful production that suited JID’s style perfectly.
With the first half being stronger than the second, this project has some of JID’s best, most iconic, and most underrated songs.
This album is great.
